300 Sea Cliff Avenue, San Francisco: Stuccoing over a $23 million home

This $23 million home at 300 Sea Cliff Avenue in San Francisco's China Beach neighborhood has been on the market for several years (since 1/13/03). And I quote:

Built in 1938, Lot size, per survey,is approx. 19,277sq. ft. This location is unsurpassed, on a point with North and West waterfronts. Magnificent Views. Grand Living room for entertaining, big family room, Formal Dining room,Den, 2 Wine Cellars, numerous Terraces.

Once again, the lazy realtor can't be bothered with correct grammar, capitalization, or punctuation.

Last Sunday, I was at China Beach, which provides a nice public-beach view of this pricey home. I was surprised to see that the home was shrouded in scaffolding and a newly-applied stucco covering!

I guess no millionaires appreciate that old-school hollow red brick façade. And rather than lower the price, it appears that the sellers decided to update the property to something more palatable to modern tastes.

So not only are they painting the house, they're also moving the Golden Gate Bridge? Interesting...

I remember when I was a gypsy-astronaut touring with Led Zepplin and your grandmother. Shutthefugup fairy nobody cares where you lived.

I remember living in this house before my Dad died, but we moved to Austin, TX after his death.

This is amazing! My cousin Harley Schear used to own this house but he passed away.
I have many memories in that house and visiting San Fransisco! I remebering hearing Robin Williams singing in the shower the day of my cousin's wedding! I hope the house goes to someone good! It is a beautiful home! It has a helicopter pad too! And a garage for a limo! I heard that John Travolta bought my cousin's house but I'm not sure if that is true. Well I wish the new owners good luck!

Actually, the house is not being stuccoed. The brick is being painted. The new color is actually the original color of the house. The contractors found photos of the house shortly after it's completion and the house was in fact white, or off-white. In any case, the house will be very impressive following its completion, but it's still over-priced.

I've admired this place for a long time, or been in awe of its ridiculous price tag . . . but whatever. I think they are throwing up that lovely stucco so that they can compete with the architectural/aesthetic splendor that is Robin Williams' place across the way, or they have figured out that in the event of a large earthquake, stucco will keep their house on the hill . . . personally, I hope it plops in the bay, but I'm just jealous.
