Why does wli*shopperdiscount appear on my credit card bill?
Like thousands of other people who have also been ripped off, I recently noticed a $9.00 charge that had been re-occurring on my credit card bill. It came from wli*shopperdiscount, but you might also see charges from WLI RESERVATION REWARDS.
The charge on your credit card bill may appear as one of these variations:
- WLI RESERVATOINSREWARD 800-732-7031 CT
- WLI SHOPPERDISCOUNT 800-889-8776 CT
Get your money back! Call Shopper Discount and Rewards: 1-800-889-8776
This is what they say on their web page (which I'm not going to link to):
Shopper Discount and Rewards is a membership service billed monthly to your VISA and MasterCard credit and debit cards. The charge appears on your bill as wli*shopperdiscount. With other cards, such as Discover and American Express, the billing descriptor is shopperdiscount.com
Shopper Discount and Rewards is owned and operated by WebLoyalty.com, Inc., which is represented on your bill as “wli” in the billing descriptor wli*shopperdiscount. This company is based in Norwalk, Connecticut. It develops money saving discount and guarantee programs that allow subscribers to save when they shop and travel.
The unhelpful people at Visa's customer service number feigned innocence.

I too have just fallen victim to this scam.
I have been charged £10 on two consecutive months and today rang and cancelled my account. I did speak to a customer service agent but was unfortunately unable to get a refund.
Surely someone should be looking at this website which can only be described as fraudulent.

Thanks so much for this post! These guys had been scamming me for 7 months. I usually have a laundry list of small purchases on my credit statements, and this one always snuck by...until this month. Just got off the phone with a rep and was promised a full refund. Thanks again.

I 've just recently realized that monthly, for about 9 MONTHS now shopperdiscount have been taking £8 out of my account.
i called them so they'll stop that and hopefully refund my money, but when i called I didn't realise that it had been going for sooo long...and it's sad that it happend to so many people.
I wrote a very upseting email to them, it would be great if I could get my £72 back, as I'm a student and cannot afford such a rip-off. I doubt I'll get something back but I can at least
try.Even the lady from the bank couldn't believe what a big scam this is, and she must see many similar situations in her job...
Good luck to everybody, and hopefullt this will stop so nobody else can get fooled by them!

I was also missing $12.00 from my checking accout for shoppers discount. I called my bank and they gave me this # 18008898776. They said that when my husband made a purchase from deepdiscount .com that he signed up for this rewards program to recieve a $10.00 off discount on his purchase. He didn't recieve any discount and he did not give his credit card number to shoppers discount. Shoppers Discount got the credit card number from his purchase on deepdiscount.com. WE WILL NEVER SHOP AT DEEPDICOUNT.COM AGAIN! Make sure you cancel this otherwise it will be deducted from your account monthly!

I called the # 1-800-889-8776 spoke with Monica and was told I would get a full refund not only for the new charge Generated by a purchase from Carol Wright online but also for 10 months that I canceled on line last year after seeing no value in this scam!! I to will be forwarding this info to the FBI.... Craig

Got me too! Purchased something off of BUY.com (a**sholes!), noticed a $1 debit on my account last month, that eventually never went through. Today I noticed a $12 debit on my account. After reading all the blogs I called Shopper Discount. This must be so routine for them, the lady was polite and gave me no problems. The debit hasnt actually posted to my account yet, apparently Shopper Discount posts the charge to your account 5 days before they actually put the charge all the way through, so my $12 debit is "suppose" to just dissappear (like the $1 debit did last month). Never shopping at BUY.com again!!!!

I hate to be the nag but please read the exclusions before you say yes to anything online. I recently made the mistake of signing up for a similar program it offered the same discounts and when I noticed a charge I realized I didn't read the fine print. ALWAYS read the terms of Services. I find it frustrating that people get upset because they didn't read what they were signing up for. NOTHING is for free if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. We need to become stronger as a society, stop blaming others for being too much in a hurry or lazy to read the fine print. Take ownership for your actions and stop being victims. I promise you will feel better if you stop saying they stole from me and say oops I didn't read the fine print. Maybe this can be the big step to becoming stronger better more responsible people. They will give you your money back if you call or take advantage of what you signed up for so what is the problem?

thank you everybody i had no idea what the charge was. now i do. wow

I just got an overdrawn fee notice twice because of shopper discounts... not only is it a fraud but by just adding your email you give the authority to be charged... I am 17 and sadly this is how I learned my lesson.

J.C. Whitney nailed me. And I assure you, I did not sign up for this. They quickly found my account by using my last name only. She asked me to verify my P.O. Box number and from there told me about my J.C. Whitney purchase. Whomever this entity is, they have my credit card number, address, name, and the ability to access my financial account without authorization. They also refunded my money (we'll see if it comes through) so quickly that it almost made me feel good. Until I realized that they are trying to stay under the radar to continue bilking thousands of other consumers who don't check their statements or don't bother with a $12 charge here and there. Funny thing is, I won't do more to stop them, so they have gotten away with it!!!

Wow. I just looked at my bank account and $12 was taken out... I Googled it and came to this page... It's insane how many people have been affected by this...

i just had the same problem on my card after buying a screen on misco.co.uk, 2 month after i got a 8 pounds taken from shopperdiscount.com, called bank+shopper getting refund + cancel of the membership.

All of the people complaining about this "scam" clicked on a link offering a discount of some sort, as did I. The only difference is that I read the "Terms of Service". In there it clearly states what you are subscribing to and the charges that will be incurred. You are given a "cancel by" date and a number to call. If you had followed the instructions there would not have been any charges to your account. It isn't a scam if you don't pay attention and read the fine print. You are the type of consumers that these merchants count on to make a profit. Don't blame others for your carelessness.

I shopped at FTD.com and DID NOT authorize any participation in SHOPPERDISCOUNT. However, I received a charge on my debit card. I called FTD.com and they admitted a relationship with SHOPPERDISCOUNT, but stated that I must have agreed to participate. I DID NOT! (I will NEVER shop FTD.com again!)

Has anyone noticed that the $12 Reservation Rewards is a Google ad on this page???!!!! Anyway, I also was hit with a $10/mo. charge from "Shopper Discounts" and have no idea where it came from. I went to the Webloyalty site and confirmed that I DO NOT have an account with them. Although I am ticked off by this scam, I am encourage that Webloyalty made an effort to be responsible and post an avenue for assistance on this blog. That makes me dispise them a little less, but they still perpetrated either a fraudulent act or a very sneaky business practice that the FTC must end.

Have I kept my promise to punch back? You bet I have! Not only have I informed law enforcement, but I spent a entire day googling TV stations and newspapers all over the country sending them copies of a very formal and politely worded universal letter complaining about this problem. In the letter I calmly stated it is in the peoples best interest to be made aware of these matters, so everyone can check their statements for items that don’t belong.
All in all, nearly 97 media sources across America were contacted by me. Out of the 97, I’m sure it will get at least a few nibbles for publication or air time.
At work when I talk about this with coworkers, … the question is brought up “why would anyone knowingly pay twelve dollars for a ten dollar discount? It just doesn’t happen!”. Further more, if they are operating at such a level of dishonesty, … what’s to say they aren’t manipulating our financial information on their computers to make it look like the victims knowingly went in for the program when in fact they didn’t. Well folks, that’s probably why they call this ‘FRAUD’.
Keep watching your statements. If you absolutely have to buy something online, I recommend buying a prepaid VISA gift card to do it. That way when the gift card is used up, scammers run into a brick wall. Don’t use your credit or debit card if you can help it.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I got the some situation only mine was from Buy.com those dirty bastards. I hate that you sign up for something and no action leads to a purchase

So I just noticed like a 12$ deduction from my account, called right away, got my money back. I used Art.com and that's the last time that'll ever happen!
Posted by: Mandie | Oct 29, 2008 8:03:23 PM
The culprit for me was buy.com. How unfortunate that companies that seem so reputable have allowed this scam onto their sites. Is there any site that is safe? Just don't click on any coupon or rebate, I guess. Or don't do your shopping online.
Posted by: Melissa | Oct 25, 2008 3:49:00 PM
I noticed 2 charges both for 12.00$ on my debit statement. One for Shopper discount and one for Reservation rewards. This was automatically drafted from my account because I ordered my cel phones online and the shopper rewards was checked for a 10$ discount on my next cell phone bill, none the less I didn't know I was being charged a total fo 24$ a month for something I didn't want. Be sure and read the terms and conditions fully. I called the 800 number and they removed my account and said they were going to refund my money in 3 to 5 business days we will see if that holds true, if not I will be calling them back.

buy.com will get you too. I'm pissed off.

I too was recently charged a $12.00 fee from this Shopper's Discount through FTD. Unfortunately this threw my bank into over draft fee after over draft fee. After all said and done this scam has cost me well over $150. I am now in the long drawn out process of disputing these fees through this scam of a business but also with my bank. I also had to cancel my credit card. Now when contacting FTD they said that I must have pushed a button twice in order to have signed up. Then I asked them is it usually their policy to share their customers credit information with outside affiliates and her response was that I shouldn't have clicked twice. Very nice FTD. All I wanted to do was send my mother a gift (BTW they sent the wrong one). My advice to anyone is not to use FTD for your own protection. Hopefully I will see some money back in my account soon. Wish me luck also!!!! KellBell

same thing. they used my customer info at Jassica london and without any confirmation started the membership and started charging $12. 800 number helped a lot. they said they will recharge. we will see in a few days.
we need more laws for these companies.

I just have been scammed by shoppersdiscount.com They charged my bank account for the amount of $12.00. When I called, they said they were an internet business and could not tell me how they acquired the necessary information to allow them to do what they did.
They did however agreed to credit my account immediately.
To prevent them or anyone else from doing the same, I had to place a fraud alert on my account.

File a complaint with the Internet Fraud Complaint Center to inform federal and state law enforcement agencies. As Stated in the above comment "America is having trouble with terrorists."
"To often you hear the question "where do terrorists get thier funding".
I have made a complaint with the Internet Fraud Complaint Center which if you look this site up it will forard internet fraud like this to the FBI, because as stated above what they are doing is illegal on a federal level. I choose No I don't want this and they charged me $12.00 anyway I caught it on the same day.

Explicame de que se trata esta compania que no entiendo. habra algun web en espanol
Posted by: amparo | Oct 16, 2008 1:00:08 PM
I've noticed I just became a target for these scam artists. I'm not going to sit still on this.
I plan on informing all my local television and radio stations about these guys.
I am also going to compile a complaint and send it to Federal Law Enforcement.
WHY? You ask?
Because the internet crosses State and National borders and boundries. That means, as far as law enforcement is concerned, ... this problem falls under the jurisdiction of the F.B.I. and the U.S. Marshall Service. Since this involves money, it may include other Federal agencies too.
Complaints will not be made only against shoppers discount, ... no no no.
Have you ever heard the phrase "It Takes Two To Tangle".
I will also be turning in the retailer(s) they are involved with.
America is having trouble with terrorists.
To often you hear the question "where do terrorists get thier funding".
After learning about Shoppers Discounts scams I was enraged and swore I would do something about it.
Some of you say they are getting away with this.
Why are they getting away with this?
Because we're all angry, but how many of us are actually punching back. We have to! At least I will.
Flooding the Federal Law enforcement agencies with our complaints is a step in the right direction.
Maybe if a small army of Federal agents armed with automatic weapons and warrents crash through the doors of this 'shoppers discount', ... It won't continue after all.
If the rest of you don't do anything, ... 'YES!' possibly it could continue. Not just continue but spread and get worse.
If you want it to stop, you have to act.

Can anyone, anyone at all, actually tell this blog that this so-called "service" actually benefits anyone in any way? Setting aside their repulsive entrapment methods, what exactly are they charging people for?

This company is the biggest scammers I've seen in awhile, not only should this company be held responsable but the company that agrees to post them on there site as well. They let these scammers post scams on there site because there probably getting a kick back from the people there stealing off of. I went 7 months before I knew that they had been charging my card. My husband and I had opened a new checking account and went to close the old account, anyway to make a long story short, our account was set to be closed on 10/07, there was no money in there, on 10/6 these idiots charge my account 10.00 and cause my account not to close and caused me to have an over draft (32.00 fee at my bank). low and behold, after I started looking into it, this was not the first time that they had caused me to over draft, this had happened on a prior date but was not noticed because my direct deposit went into the bank and I never realized what had happened. Isn't there anyway to stop this kind of scams?

The folks at ZINKA.COM contacted me and said it was the online merchant that handles their transactions - CCNOW. I think I'll be more careful with online merchant third parties.
Posted by: Pamela | Oct 6, 2008 10:55:36 AM
I got hit from ZINKA.COM. My cc company called Shopper Discounts & Rewards and they hung up on my cc company. It should be illegal for these companies to give out credit card information so easily to a third party. I plan to cancel this credit card.

Same here. Recently bought come computer equipment from www.lambda-tek.com . After my stuff arrived, I received a email saying I could get a £10 discount with my next purchase. Tasty I thought so I signed up, stupidly without reading the Ts&Cs. Today an £8 withdrawal by Shopper discounts. Fortunately, this was on a corporate card, and our accounts "dept" is pretty sharp. Because it was a corporate purchase, the rip-off bastards immediately cancel the payments and I received an email 10 minutes later telling me that we will be refunded within 10 working days. So, all I'm left with is a little embarrassment in front of the head of finance.

I purchased a motherboard for a computer from BUY.COM. As the rest of you I signed up for $10 off next purchase. Just check my online statement and got two charges at $12 from SHOPPERDISCOUNT and RESERVATIONREWARDS. I talked to "Summer" there who said that both with get refunded and that I was in the trail period. I told them cancell everything.
Called them at 1-800-889-8776 x1 and then 0 and they are same company charging. Imagine $24 x 12 monthes =$288 per year for nothing! Scammers. This is my worst came in all my online experience!
Seems as if lots of companies are selling our CC numbers! Lame, I should cancell mine and get a new number!

Thank you so much for posting this info! We were just promised a refund of $24 for 2 months of charges. We would have run in circles for quite a while to figure out where these charges were from without you all making comments. Note that the phone message said we had to press 2 to talk to a representative, but that just took us back to the main menu ("1" for cancellation, "2" to talk to a representative). You can press "2" forever and never get out of the main menu - we finally pressed 0 (zero) and got a rep.

They're STILL at it. Now they're debiting 1.00 so as not to catch you attention.
They also LIE: when I cancelled, the message said "you have not been charged and you will not be charged" but my bank statement shows a one dollar debit. Rounding error?

Shopper Discount and Rewards is a membership service billed monthly to your VISA and MasterCard credit and debit cards. The charge appears on your bill as wli*shopperdiscount. With other cards, such as Discover and American Express, the billing descriptor is shopperdiscount.com
